#independentseveryday

I've started a little Instagram project and am excited to see how many people I can get to join in. (You can also follow along on Facebook or Twitter, for non-'grammers!)

Every day between Memorial Day and Independence Day, I'm spotlighting an independent bookstore I love, with the hashtag #independentseveryday. Today's store, the first, is one I've loved for a long time -- Prairie Lights in Iowa City.

Been there, read there, bought the mug!

two months of Kate!

Well, GIRL IN DISGUISE has passed the two-month mark, and at the same time, it also hit 200 reviews and 600 ratings on Goodreads! Nice when these milestones cluster together!

A huge thanks to everyone who has read, shared, praised, discussed, and/or bought the book in these early days. It makes a world of difference, honestly.

If you haven't rated the book on Goodreads, you can do that right here.

Also, you don't have to buy the book from Amazon to give it a review there, so please consider that option as well!

Thank you, thank you, and again thank you. Writers have nothing to do without readers.

new interview at Spine Magazine

I love good book cover design, so it should be no surprise to hear that I love Spine, a magazine that focuses on book covers. They also interview writers about their process and practice -- of course I was tickled when they asked to interview me.

Here I am talking about my real life (so boring I can't write about it), my writing process (sloppy as all get out), and my next book (click on the article, won't you?)

The Greer Macallister interview at Spine.

follow me on BookBub!

I'm generally reading at least three books at once: one paper, one audio, and one e-book. I get a lot of my e-books from BookBub, and if you do too, here's a way to make sure you'll never miss a deal on a Greer Macallister e-book: "follow" me there.

Here's where you do the clicking/following thing.

My current e-book is for research, but here's what else I'm reading right now: CELINE by Peter Heller (we're on a panel together at the Gaithersburg Book Festival on May 20) and THE BOOK OF SUMMER by Michelle Gable (it just came out today!)

how I became a detective

Writing fiction takes you in many directions. For my first novel THE MAGICIAN'S LIE I got to explore the world of stage magic, and how novelists are illusionists who work in words. For GIRL IN DISGUISE, about the first woman in the US to become a detective, I got to explore the similarities being being a detective and being a writer.

Here's an article about that process -- it's also a nice introduction to Kate Warne and how the story I tell about her in GIRL relates to the historical record... what there is of it.

Enjoy!

THE MAGICIAN'S LIE movie news!

Ooh, this is just too exciting. Tucked snugly into this Deadline article about the new production and development head at Freckle Films is the name of the screenwriter who's working on the film adaptation of THE MAGICIAN'S LIE! I love this stuff. The movie is a far cry from being in theaters quite yet, but this is an encouraging sign.

Read the update in Deadline here.

(And the adaptation of my friend Camille Pagan's novel LIFE AND OTHER NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES has a screenwriter AND a director! So awesome!)
